CARIBBEAN STATISTICS DAY 2015 CELEBRATIONS

THEME: "Better Data. Better Lives"

OVERVIEW

Thursday, 15 October 2015, marked the seventh annual observance of Caribbean Statistics Day in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). This year's activities also coincided with the second observance of the United Nation's World Statistics Day on 20 October 2015. Caribbean Statistics Day is aimed at recognising the vital role of statistics in improving the daily lives of the peoples of our Community and in raising the profile of statistics and statisticians across the Region. The theme for the year borrowed from that of the World Statistics Day, "Better Data. Better Lives".

"Official statistics help decision makers develop informed policies that impact millions of people. Improved data sources, sound statistical methods, new technologies and strengthened statistical systems enable better decisions that eventually result in better lives for all of us. On 20 October 2015, the global statistical community will showcase their achievements and their ongoing work to help this vision come true." www.worldstatisticsday.org

Member States and Associate Members were encouraged to actively engage with stakeholders including, suppliers and users of data and specifically, schools, children and youth in general in promoting the importance of statistics to the development of the respective countries. Countries were also urged to recruit members to the newly established Caribbean Association of Professional Statisticians (CAPS).
