CARIBBEAN STATISTICS DAY 2014 CELEBRATIONS
THEME: Data Revolution for Sustainable Development of CARICOM
Designing and Operationalising a Framework for Statistics in the Post 2015 Development Agenda
OVERVIEW
Wednesday, 15 October 2014, marked the sixth observance of Caribbean Statistics Day in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The observance was aimed at recognising the vital role of statistics in improving the daily lives of the peoples of our Community and in raising the profile of statistics and statisticians across the Region. The theme for the year borrowed from that of a major statistical event that had been held in the Region, the Second High Level Advocacy Forum on Statistics (HLF), in St. George's, Grenada on 26 May 2014 with the theme: ‘A Data Revolution for Sustainable Development, with a new International Initiative to Improve the Quality of Statistics and Information available for Citizens’.
Member States and Associate Members were encouraged to actively engage with stakeholders including, suppliers and users of data and specifically, schools, children and youth in general in promoting the importance of statistics to the development of the respective countries. Countries were also urged to recruit members to the newly formed Caribbean Association of Professional Statisticians (CAPS).
