The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has congratulated Trinidad and Tobago on its Sixty-First Anniversary of Independence.

CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, noted the country’s integral role in the regional integration movement in her congratulatory message to Prime Minister Dr. Hon Keith Rowley.

Please read the congratulatory message below:

“Honourable Prime Minister,

“The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) extends congratulations to the Government and People of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on the celebration of its Sixty-First Anniversary of Independence on 31 August 2023.

The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago continues to make its mark of excellence globally through its vibrant and dynamic contribution, particularly in the fields of music, art and sports. The designation of 11 August by the United Nations as World Steelpan Day, exemplifies the far-reaching impact of Trinidad and Tobago on the cultural enrichment of humanity.

Of marked significance to our Region is the imminent Presidency of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago of the 78th United Nations General Assembly, yet another milestone in the country’s legacy.

Trinidad and Tobago has played an integral role in the regional integration movement, as one of the original signatories to the Treaty of Chaguaramas and the birthplace of the Caribbean Community. We also recall the heartwarming hospitality as hosts of our recent 50th Anniversary celebratory activities and the 45th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government, in July 2023.

Honourable Prime Minister, you continue to lead admirably in the Quasi-Cabinet, having responsibility for energy and security, including matters pertaining to the illicit drugs and arms trade as demonstrated in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’s hosting of the Regional Symposium addressing Violence as a Public Health Issue.

I extend my best wishes to you as the new Chair of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on Cricket.

I am confident that you will continue to play a leading role in shaping the future of our Region, as we seek to build a stronger, safer and more prosperous Community.

Please accept wishes for continued progress, peace and prosperity of the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago.”
