The Bahamas bracing for hurricane conditions today

Residents of the North-western and Central islands of The Bahamas are under a Hurricane Warning as Hurricane Isaias continues its Westward movement, Saturday.

Isaias was, on Saturday morning, located 23.9 North, 77,1 West or about 80 miles (125 KM) South-South-East of Nassau (and about 210 miles SSE of Freeport, Grand Bahamas Island). It was moving towards the North-west near 12 miles-per-hour, while packing maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour (140 km/h) with higher gusts.

On the forecast track, the centre of Isaias is expected to move near or over the Central Bahamas on Saturday morning, and near or over the North-western Bahamas later on Saturday.

The Northwest and Central Bahamas include Exuma, Cat Island, Long Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay, Andros, New Providence, Eleuthera, Bimini, The Berry Islands, Grand Bahama and Abaco.

Bahamian Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis, in an address on Thursday, made an appeal to the public to be prepared for the Isaias, while practicing safety protocols regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bahamians will have fresh memories of the devastation cased by the passage of the more powerful Hurricane Dorian in September 2019.
