CARICOM initiatives to boost Region’s Statistical Capacity Development
The 31st Meeting of the CARICOM Advisory Group on Statistics, 48th Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians, 36th Meeting of the Regional Coordinating Census Committee and 13th CARICOM Regional Research Seminar will be convened from 26 October – 3 November 2023.
To advance the production, dissemination and harmonisation of statistics and statistical learning across the Community, the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) Strengthening the Framework for the CARICOM Integration and Cooperation Process (SFCICP) Programme is supporting several initiatives of the CARICOM Secretariat’s Regional Statistics Programme.
These include sponsoring meetings of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians (SCCS), the Advisory Group on Statistics (AGS), the Regional Census Coordinating Committee (RCCC) and the CARICOM Regional Research Seminar (CRRS).
The SCCS and AGS contribute to regional initiatives in statistical capacity development, including the preparation of the CARICOM Regional Strategy for the Development of Statistics (RSDS) and the Action Plan for Statistics in the Caribbean and, within the scope of the SFCICP Programme, the harmonisation of statistics, the development of a statistical business process model and a strategy for branding CARICOM Statistics, and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 11th EDF statistical interventions.
The Forty-Eighth Meeting of the SCCS will focus on the work completed to implement the RSDS. Countries will report on the status of various areas of statistics, including the SDG Indicators.
The RCCC will review the progress of countries that have conducted or are presently conducting or are preparing to conduct their enumeration exercises for the 2020 Round of Population and Housing Census.
The CRRS serves as a mechanism to encourage the use of statistics, promote research into statistical methods and applications, and provide a forum for statisticians and other stakeholders to present their research findings that can aid the development of statistics in the Region.
