Caribbean Wellness Day 2023 Workplace Celebrations in Barbados

(Barbados Government Information Service Press Release) The Ministry of Health and Wellness invites all government ministries to join its staff in celebrating Caribbean Wellness Day (CWD), which falls on Saturday, September 9, this year.

Ministries are encouraged to facilitate activities which promote physical and emotional wellness in the workplace during the week leading up to CWD.

The activities for staff can include but are not limited to: emotional wellness sessions; physical activity; healthy nutrition; spiritual wellness sessions or environmental wellness days.

Wellness Day is an annual event recognised by all CARICOM Member States with the aim of increasing awareness of non-communicable diseases and promoting measures to decrease their risks.

The CARICOM Secretariat encourages member states to host activities under an agreed theme for each year. The overall theme for the period 2020-2024 is Power through Collective Action with each of the four years having a sub-theme.

This year’s sub-theme is The Care We Need: At Work, At School, At Home. One of the objectives from the CARICOM Secretariat this year is for member states to encourage the adoption of activities within workplaces and schools to promote physical activity, healthy eating, mental wellness, and health seeking behaviours.

Staff at the Ministry of Health and Wellness will participate in a workshop entitled Emotional Wellness in the Workplace on Thursday, September 7, at 2:00 p.m. Motivational speaker Derek Ward will address the session.
