Anguilla mourns death of former Chief Minister

The Government of Anguilla has announced the passing of the Island’s former Chief Minister Mr Hubert Hughes.

Mr Hughes was first elected to the Anguilla House of Assembly in 1976. He was Anguilla’s third Chief Minister, having served in that capacity from 1994 to 1999, 1999 to 2000 and 2010 to 2015.

“With a political career spanning approximately forty years, Mr Hughes is one of Anguilla’s most revered political leaders,” Anguilla’s Premier Dr Ellis Webster said in a Statement.

“The people of Anguilla will forever be grateful for his contribution to the development of our beloved island,” the statement added.

As a mark of respect, flags on the island will be flow at half mast from Saturday for a period of seven days.
